The growing need for dental care makes dental assisting one of the hottest jobs on the market today. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the dental assisting job outlook is predicted to continue to grow at least for the next five years.

Dental assistants are those people you see in clinics and private practices who seem to do everything: run the front office, maintain records and billing, prepare rooms and equipment for procedures, take x-rays and even assist the dentist. Their flexibilty is valuable, as is their ability to anticipate the needs of patient and dentist, and their skills operating various equipment, from the office computer to the x-ray machine.

If you’re considering getting into a career that is stable, demands versatility, and helps others, it might be time to think about becoming a dental assistant. In the growing field of dental assisting there are many opportunities to learn new things, take on new responsibilities, make good money and branch out into other related occupations.

About the Program

Heald College offers a diploma and an Associates degree in dental assisting that prepares students to take advantage of the growing demand for dental assistants. A combination of classroom courses and real-life work experience will help round out the student’s skills and give them confidence in their abilities when getting their first dental assisting job.

Hands-on education is a big part of the program, and students will be trained in fully-equipped labs, where they learn to prepare for procedures, take x-rays, and work within the dental team. Externships are also essential for the completion of the program.

Heald’s career services personnel are also on hand to support graduates with counseling and guidance as well as job placement. Graduates get help putting together resumes, looking for jobs and preparing for interviews. The college also hosts career fairs and on-campus interviews to help close the gap between graduation and starting a new career.

Accreditation

Heald College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
