Dental assisting is a rapidly growing field in today’s job market. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that despite the current recession and rising unemployment rate, dental assisting as a career has excellent prospects and will continue to grow for the next five years.
The demand for qualified dental assistants is increasing, due to the recognition of these individuals as the go-to people in any dental practice or clinic. Dental assistants perform a wide variety of tasks, from front end duties to chairside patient care. The best dental assistants can prioritize tasks, think on their feet, keep a cool head in urgent situations, communicate with a friendly and professional attitude, and are skilled in both the clinical and administrative arenas.
If you would like to be part of a team delivering quality dental care, if you want a stimulating and rewarding career, if you’re looking for a stable job with opportunities to move ahead, you should consider a career as a dental assistant. The investment is a roughly year-long program but the payoff could change and improve your life.
About the Program
The Career Institute of the American International College offers a program to help those interested in dental assisting to break into the field with enough skills and knowledge to be competitive. The program offers training in the many facets of dental assisting. Classes are offered that teach the basic administrative duties of the dental office, like billing, scheduling and purchasing supplies. The dental assisting program also covers clinical duties for assistants who would be working in the lab, the x-ray room, and chairside, along with the dentist. By giving the students an extensive education covering the breadth of the dental assistant’s duties, the dental assisting program helps ensure that graduates can take advantage of a vast array of job opportunities in the dental assisting field, as well as other related occupations.
The Career Institute will continue to help dental program graduates achieve their goals by giving them access to its career services department for the life of their career. Job listings, on-site interviewing opportunities, and help with job search will be made available to the graduate.
